What is Restylane®?
Restylane® is a hyaluronic acid (HA) based injectable gel filler. Restylane® is FDA-approved for the treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). Restylane® is also the first FDA-approved dermal filler for lip enhancement.

How does Restylane® work?
It works similarly to other HA fillers, by physically filling in the areas where collagen and HA have been lost over time due to repeated facial expressions (like smiling), age, and sun damage. By doing this, skilled providers are able to smooth away wrinkles and fine lines. When used to enhance the lips, Restylane® can help to restore fullness to the upper and lower lip and restore the cupid’s bow arch of the upper lip.
Restylane® is made by the same company that produces Perlane®. Both products are hyaluronic acid based fillers, and so both work similarly to physically fill in wrinkles and fine lines. The primary difference between Restylane® and Perlane is the size of the individual particles of HA. Restylane® uses smaller particles, and is more suitable for fine lines and lip augmentation, while Perlane uses larger particles that can help to fill in deeper wrinkles. Perlane is injected a little more deeply into the skin. During your consultation, your healthcare professional will decide which product is right for you.
FAQ
How long does Restylane® last?
Restylane® injections typically last around 6 months. However, with a touch up treatment at 6 or 9 months after your original injections, you may be able to extend the time between full treatments. Lip enhancement with Restylane® typically lasts up to 6 months (your lips get a lot of use!).
Do the injections hurt?
Any injection may cause discomfort. Restylane® is available pre-mixed with lidocaine (Restylane-L) to improve patient comfort. We also use topical numbing, and ice packs to reduce discomfort.
