Perlane® is a hyaluronic acid (HA) based injectable gel filler. Perlane is FDA-approved for the treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds).
It works similarly to other HA fillers, by physically filling in the areas where collagen and HA have been lost over time due to repeated facial expressions (like smiling), age, and sun damage. By doing this, skilled providers are able to smooth away wrinkles and fine lines.
Perlane® is made by the same company that produces Restylane®. Both products are hyaluronic acid based fillers, and so both work similarly to physically fill in wrinkles and fine lines. The primary difference between Restylane and Perlane is the size of the individual particles of HA. Restylane uses smaller particles, and is more suitable for fine lines and lip augmentation, while Perlane uses larger particles that can help to fill in deeper wrinkles. Perlane is injected a little more deeply into the skin. During your consultation, your healthcare professional will decide which product is right for you.
