Enhance your smile with Juvederm Volbella® – a new option to create soft, long-lasting and natural appearing lips and to reduce the appearance of unwanted lip lines.

What is Juvederm Volbella?

We are excited to have been the first in the region to offer Juvederm Volbella XC, an exciting new product intended to increase lip fullness and soften perioral lines. Volbella is an injectable gel that contains hyaluronic acid, providing patients with the opportunity to improve lip contour while boosting lip volume.

Volbella has been used in Europe for many years and is available in 70 different countries.

What are the benefits of Volbella?

Volbella was created using Vycross technology which results in the product absorbing less water after injection. This allows an experienced injector to better visualize the final artistic outcome and minimize the risk of over corrected ‘too full’ lips. Also, results with Volbella may last up to one year. Thoroughly injected Volbella produces very soft, natural-appearing results.

How Long Does Volbella Last?

Volbella typically lasts up to one year, which may allow a longer interval between treatments than some shorter duration treatments. It may also be used in combination with other fillers to optimally enhance lips and areas around the mouth.

Will it look natural?

Volbella is a smooth gel, when properly injected, creates a soft and more natural look. However, if you desire fuller lips (rather than just a natural correction of aging lips and/or wrinkles) please bring a photo or two of what you desire so that our team of expert injectors can best design a treatment tailored just for you!

What is a cannula?

A cannula is a special injection tool used instead of a traditional needle. Unlike needles, cannulas have blunt tips with the injection hole on the side of the cannula. Due to absence of a sharp tip, the cannulas are not only less painful, but also less likely to bruise (as well as potentially less risk for damage to blood vessels and nerves and other safety issues). They also allow the injector to have more “artistic” ability. Also, the use of cannula sometimes requires less volume of filler.

Cannula techniques are widely used in Europe, but are not as common yet in the USA as extensive training and experience is required.

Is the procedure uncomfortable?

Volbella contains 0.3% lidocaine, a numbing agent, which lessens the discomfort of the injections. Volbella’s smooth consistency also helps with the injectable procedure since smaller needles may be used with Volbella. Patients may also request topical numbing cream to be applied before the procedure as well as use ice for additional comfort.

Is there any downtime or side effects associated with Volbella?

Typically, no downtime occurs. Patients may return to normal activities post-treatment; however, some bruising may occur (typically bruising is less likely if a cannula is used). Patients may experience minor swelling and redness at the injection site.

If bruising does occur, our patients may receive pulsed dye laser treatment combined with an LED treatment which usually helps decrease both the severity and duration of bruising.  A pulsed dye laser treatment is best performed within 24-72 hours of your treatment and treatment usually requires only a few minutes. One pulsed dye laser and GentleWaves LED treatment is available free to our post-injection patients.

What does it cost?

We believe that Volbella is ideally used to restore a more youthful appearance to the lips and surrounding areas or to provide a natural appearing enhancement for those who desire fuller lips. Thus we may suggest treatment with Volbella alone or we often combine Volbella with other fillers as your particular situation requires. We customize the volume of material injected to be optimal for your goals and budget. Fees will discussed at your consultations or before treatment so that you may choose the option you wish.
